PRINCIPAL DESIGNER (CDM 2015)

We are looking for an exceptionally talented Principal Designer to join our London Studio, covering our 16 regional UK offices. This presents a brilliant opportunity to take complete ownership and drive our Principal Design offer in our geographically diverse business model.

We’re after a results driven, tenacious, Principal Designer who meets the criteria laid down by CDM Regulations 2015, has the appropriate experience of Construction, managing and coordinating Design Teams and Health & Safety in Construction, for a mixture of bespoke architectural projects. We are a progressive practice, so you’ll need to understand our culture and strategy, identify opportunities and be responsible for developing a new ‘Principal Designer’ team. It’s an entrepreneurial job, with loads of responsibility and the freedom to deliver results.


Qualifications, Accreditations, Memberships

Essential: Registered CSP (RMaPS)

Desirable: Registered ICE H&S; NEBOSH; IOSH Construction Certificate

Skills, Knowledge, Experience (Expectations)

  • Focused on CDM Regulations, and advising our Architects on how to achieve compliance and other H&S considerations on our projects
  • Clear understanding and extensive experience and knowledge of the application of the legal requirements of the CDM 2015 Regulations
  • Demonstrable evidence of completing an accredited PD training course/ qualification.
  • Ideally a member of the APS or ICS
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in a commercial design or construction role
  • Proactive, chairing safety and design risk meetings and taking a lead role
  • Ability to collate pre-construction information and identify how any information gaps will be resolved
  • Experience of conducting H&S specific design reviews throughout the design and construction phases of a project
  • Proven ability of leading, managing and developing individuals and teams
  • Strategic and conceptual thinker
  • Commercial awareness / aptitude for business management
  • Delegation skills
  • Effectively communicate at all levels (internal & external)
  • Excellent presentation skills (Visual, written & spoken)
  • Track record of networking and relationship building
  • Ability to organise and plan – analytical skills
  • Ability to successfully interpret briefs
