Classical Design Architect

We are looking for an exceptionally talented Classical Design Architect. This role would be working across a national spread of projects so the candidate could be based from any of our UK studios, our preferences are Manchester, London or Oxford.

You will need to be able to display a can-do attitude, willingness to learn and understanding of Purcell’s projects and culture. The candidate will need to demonstrate a creative design passion for the traditional use of the classical language of architecture and traditional architectural design in new build, extension to existing buildings. Some experience of working with the historic environment is desirable but not essential. The candidate will need to demonstrate ability in both traditional and digital media. Qualifications, Accreditations, Memberships

  • Essential: ARB, RIBA / RICS
  • Desirable: AABC, IHBC, RIBASCA

Skills, Knowledge, Experience (Expectations)

  • 3-5 years post-qualification experience
  • High standard of aesthetic appreciation, interest and design ability
  • An effective and thoughtful manager of projects and people
  • The ability to take a strategic overview of complex design problems and devise elegant solutions
  • An ability to listen and show team leadership skills
  • Experience leading and contributing to the design of major projects
  • Equally at home leading the creative process or contributing to wider team
  • Able to receive feedback positively even if different to own views or ideas
  • Effectively communicate at all levels (internal & external) and can lead major presentations
  • Thorough understanding of architectural history
  • Passionate about historic buildings
