Purcell Takes A Day Out Across the Globe

7 September 2023

Our team of over 250 architects, heritage consultants, and support staff across the world all enjoyed sunny, fun-filled days away from the office this year, with the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong teams gathering in their respective locations for the 2023 Purcell Day Out.

Our UK team returned to Stowe House, previously host to the Purcell Day Out in 2016 and 2019, for the celebrations. The highlight of our return to Stowe was a tour of the historic house, on which we have been working for the past two decades, including the recently completed Dining Room restoration.

Tours and architectural sketching were followed by the annual Purcell Awards before the team ventured out onto the lawn for games of football, rounders, and drinks.

A few weeks later, the Sydney, Hobart, and Melbourne teams all met up at Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach to catch up over breakfast before a short tour of Bondi Pavilion: a listed Australian cultural beach icon. After exploring the art gallery and learning about Australia’s history and heritage in the Bondi Story Room, the team had lunch on the Centennial Park Homestead before reflecting on the past year and what the next twelve months might bring.

A few rounds of frisbee and paddle-bat in the park were followed by some thirst-quenching drinks in Paddington to end the day!

The final day out of the year saw the Hong Kong team revel in a laid-back beach day at the unspoilt Ham Tim in Tai Long Wan (or, ‘Salty Field in Big Wave Bay’ as it is literally translated). After arriving at the remote location via speedboat the team enjoyed drinks, snacks, and games on the beach before taking a dip in the clear and calm sea.

While our teams across the world may have celebrated our collective achievements separately, it was fantastic to see the spirit of the Purcell Day Out captured across the globe: a chance to celebrate our people, culture, and connect with friends old and new.
