Stowe House

Independent School

Stowe House is one of the finest 18th century country houses in Europe. Purcell embarked on an ambitious phased programme of repair and restoration in 1999 and continue to work there. Work included conservation and repair of the North Front, South Front, Marble Saloon and the State Rooms.

Radley College

Independent Boarding School

Following 10 years of reviewing options, Radley College invited a select few architectural practices to a closed competition to explore options to increase the seating capacity in their Grade II* Listed Chapel, designed by Sir T.G.Jackson in 1893. Purcell was appointed to provide full architectural services from inception to completion. The project is being undertaken using BIM. The primary intervention is the extension of the East end, providing greater focus on the Sanctuary and the opportunity for reordering within the Chapel.

Barlborough Hall

Independent School

Barlborough Hall School is currently in use as a private school within the Barlborough Hall Estate. Both the house and its courtyard buildings are set in extensive Grade II-listed grounds, which are included in Historic England’s Register of Parks and Gardens. Purcell was appointed to produce a Conservation Management Plan for the school.

King's Ely

Independent Day and Boarding School

King’s Ely is a coeducational independent day and boarding school in the cathedral city of Ely, Cambridgeshire. The school sits in a prominent location, in the shadow of Ely Cathedral. Over the centuries, the school has grown to number nearly 1,000 pupils. Purcell has worked at the King’s School over a number of years, both on historic buildings and new building projects.

Northbourne Park School

Independent Day and Boarding School

Northbourne Park School is an independent day and boarding school for children aged 3 - 13 years. It is accommodated within the historic house and grounds of Betteshanger House near Deal, Kent. The listed mansion house was substantially re-modelled by George Devey in 1856. Purcell was commissioned by the School to develop proposals for three new dormitory houses, changing rooms, storage facilities and a new pre-preparatory school.

Town Close House School

Independent School

Town Close House School is a leading independent and co-educational preparatory school in the city of Norwich. Accommodated within a fifteen-acre site in Norwich’s Newmarket Road Conservation Area, the School has seen several phases of development in recent years. Purcell designed a new teaching block to provide accommodation on two floors for classrooms with attached stores, a computer room, staff rooms, a library and toilets.

Norwich School

Independent School

Norwich School is a co-educational, independent day school for pupils aged four to eighteen. Set on the water meadows below the Cathedral Close, the lower school was devastated by fire in 1999. Purcell conducted a major reconstruction programme to remodel the entire interior and extend the school to provide additional classrooms.

Ampleforth Abbey

Independent Boarding School

Purcell was commissioned to advise the community on its plans to reorder the Abbey Church and extend the Monastery to provide a new refectory, oratory chapel and cloister. We also prepared quinquennial reports and feasibility studies for the rationalisation and improvement of the monastic living quarters.

Beachborough School

Based in Brackley, Beachborough School is one of the oldest prep schools in the country, and was founded in 1910 by a young teacher named Frederick Edmondson Chappell. Purcell was appointed to do a feasibility study exploring the options for the location of a new technology suite, in addition to a detailed study of the preferred option.

Engayne Primary School

For the development of Engayne Primary School, in Essex, Purcell developed the school’s building to provide accommodation for new staff and administration duties.
