As part of the development and growth of Bendigo as a regional hub, this project seeks to develop a Masterplan that will provide a strategic approach to the urban renewal of the site and surrounding precinct. The site is included in a number of heritage overlays with significant railway buildings and infrastructure forming a key component of the proposed Masterplan design.

Purcell was part of a successful tender as Heritage Consultant with SJB Urban for the development of the Bendigo Station Masterplan for VicTrack, the owners of the Station Complex.

Key challenges included the complex arrangement of buildings within the Station precinct, many of which are still used for station purposes. Sensitive development, adaptive reuse within a complex arrangement of working and redundant buildings and the overall retention of the notable built form character of Bendigo Station are key challenges within the railway precinct.

Our role was to provide heritage context overview and consultancy in relation to the evolving proposals by SJB Urban. This included background review of the heritage assets within the precinct and the production of a series of heritage opportunities and constraints to inform the developing masterplan design.
