Architectural Assistant / Graduate


Purcell are looking for an architectural graduate or student in response to our continued growth in Tasmania and Asia Pacific more widely.

The role will predominantly support Tasmanian based projects but presents opportunities for project work across our Asia Pacific Studios. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team recognised as No. 1 for Heritage in the World Architecture Top 100 practice, 2022.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in design and the conservation of heritage fabric. In addition we are seeking someone who can support the provision of heritage advice for places of state and local significance.

This is a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills from our expert team.

You will need a can-do attitude and willingness to learn. We will be looking for the following experience in all applications submitted:


  • Learn, apply and share the core expertise and specialisms of Purcell;
  • Work closely with our existing core team for ongoing architecture and heritage conservation projects;
  • Support the preparation of heritage advisory reports including Heritage Impact Assessments
  • Produce 2D and 3D drawings and models based on provided information;
  • Contribute to developing concept, schematic and detail design and technical documentation packages;
  • Undertake site surveys and visits with members of our core team, and;
  • Prepare high quality presentation documents and visualisations.


  • Completed Bachelors degree in Architecture. Masters degree desirable, but not essential;
  • An interest in contextual design in urban or historic environments;
  • Sound written communication and analytical skills;
  • Proactive, personable, confident and with a strong sense of team spirit;
  • Proficiency in 2D documentation (preferably AutoCAD), 3D modelling (eg Sketchup), visualisations and desktop publishing (eg Adode CS);
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign and/or other graphic presentation software
  • Experience using BIM software (eg REVIT) desirable, but not essential, and;
  • Post-graduate study in heritage conservation desirable, but not essential.
