We are lead architects for the the £100+million Penrhos Holiday Village and associated developments.  Working with a masterplanning consultant, we produced concept architectural designs for a new leisure village and associated housing development.   The site comprises three sections, Penrhos, Cae Glas and Kingsland, all within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), necessitating a sensitive and considered response.

The leisure village is focussed upon the historic Penrhos Estate, and the remnants of the 19th century gothic revival house, estate buildings and farm are being incorporated into the leisure hub. At Cae Glas, the lodges have been designed to initially accommodate contractors working on the re-development of the nearby Nuclear Power Station at Wylfa.  These will then be converted, maintaining the exterior shell, to leisure accommodation.  At Kingsland, a residential development of 350-400 houses is proposed.  These are contemporary houses of various sizes and types, designed to respond to the site topography and character.

The Boat-House restaurant is designed as a focal point. A contemporary timber-framed structure will be added to the stone plinth from the original structure, with panoramic views across the bay.

The Lodges combine contemporary design with modular construction to ensure viability, with full-height glazing providing panoramic views through woodland and out to sea.

The courtyard lodges draw upon estate building precedents, and are situated within the grounds of the house, and the kitchen gardens.  They differ from the lodges by providing duplex style accommodation to target a wider market.

Within the standing remains around the new Spa, we propose to reinstate the parterre gardens, based on the historic designs, to grow plants catering for a range of aromatherapy treatments.

The Hub is phased to allow the site to become operational quickly. It is designed to respect the surrounding listed buildings whilst providing striking, contemporary spaces for the leisure activities, restaurants and retail.
